Here are some IDRZ I’ve had and collected over the last few years (most materialized w/in the last year to 18 months, for some reason- illuminationsmaybe?). Most of these essays / articles are still in note / rough draft form and too fragmented for general consumption. I will, over the next few months be working on them as I’ve been feeling pundit-y lately, what with all the web logs and such.

the big gaping hole

how I feel then and now
(2001 2004 2007 – dylan, adam, mike, south park republicans, grand elderly party, bleeding wallet liberals, gigantomegacorp, how would Jesus vote? would He even register?)

are apologetics even important?
(any apologetics in this ever spinning world – philosophy, modern thought and science, the Bible)

we live in a cursed world, atheist or not
(you’ve gotta admit it)

I recently took my home computer apart (it was old) and brought some of my old hard drives to use at work. (I back up a lot of video and audio here, so the space was necessary.) As I was going through an old 30GB that I used about four years ago, I found an old My Documents folder, inside there was another folder called MISC IDEAS. Most of them were little pieces that I had used in other stories and ideas since, but there are some others that were interesting to me.

“-the function of the junction is real, but it is not what we thought.”
I have no idea what this was about.

Rabbit fish are one of several species of fish known to cause hallucinatory fish poisoning, but the problem is very rare outside the Indo-Pacific.Two men have suffered terrifying visual and auditory hallucinations after eating poisonous fish in Mediterranean restaurants.
This was for a story that somehow tied Salten’s Bambi with The Tell-Tale Heart, pit-fighting and a dead girl named ‘Starshine’…oh, yeah, and it took place in the future, but not a post-apocalyptic wasteland future.

Takes place presumably before now, 80’s maybe. A story about a man, Pío, travels from his father’s home in Louisiana to NYC to attend a week-long film festival. He has submitted a short film titled ‘Fulgor’ that took him two years to make. We never learn all the details of ‘Fulgore’s’ plot, as it remains a McGuffin, but small details are made known.

Details such as
– the film is set in the 1500’s
– it deals with a possibly apocryphal historic event
– the main character’s name is Clézio, a scribe
– refers to Poe’s “Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque”
– idea of vampires as metaphor brought up more than once
– a musical piece, “Dies Irae” is featured in the short
– Pío catches flack for using this w/o the copyright permission
– idea of “inertia for inertia’s sake” is known to be prevalent

—————-

The theme of inertia takes over Pío’s life as well. He seems to “stall” with small insignificant things, taking an inordinate amount of time to put lotion on chapped hands, pouring and stirring coffee. A simple piano theme that he wrote for the score to his film as a backup in case his use of “Dies Irae” got him in trouble plays in the background whenever he stalls. The viewer can only guess as to what he is thinking about, but we are allowed to study his eyes and maybe the occasional quick flash of a memory.

Sometimes.
When I get cynical….
I think.
We were put on earth
so that we could get used to material life
while begrudgingly waiting for heaven.
and when we get there?
then what?
stand around in a white robe and wear sunglasses?
God knows the story.

Update –
This post does not reflect the overall life views of the individual who penned it. It just happens that it is some times something that he thinks about. This little piece of scripture is not meant to advocate the idea of materialism in the afterlife, or perpetuate the notion that these verses should be read for any other reason than merely a bemused study on the amount of ourselves that we put into the things we gather during our time here. It should also be noted that Heaven is not likely to be a dull or cloying experience, as there will be WiFi.

excerpts

from ‘A Letter to Alan (my roommate)’

“…I would like to apologize for telling you that Renee was having sex with Darin Moore in the next room, even though you said you didn’t even want to know, you really didn’t care at all, just please, please shut-up. I am sorry that I told you anyway. … If it helps at all, I really thought that it was funny. Especially since they conceived.”

“…I was jealous that I wasn’t there the night that you burst your neck cyst and showed Morgan, and made him gag and stick his head in the freezer, so for about a month after you guys told me about it, I secretly prayed that you’d get another one, so I could be there and we could all join in the fun. … I also listed the prayer request in my church bulletin under “Private Prayers”, so about 150 other people also unwittingly prayed for it too. Imaging my surprise when you got not one, but two more! I’d like to thank you for taking part in strengthening my faith. …”

  • About idrz

This is a new idea for posting regularly with the only thing I can regularly post about w/o feeling like I'm perpetuating an exercise in vanity. I always have ideas for films, stories, music, poems, photos, art, ect. Here is where I will put them. Also, if I think you have a good idea, I'll put it up here also. I will, of course, give credit where it's due. -j / sg
  • IDRZ Disclaimer:

Sometimes ideas will be posted here that don't make much sense. Usually when this happens, it will be one of my personal posts. Sometimes my ideas are half-baked, even for my brain. I apologize for the inevitable confusion. -j
